Decatur – Two Decatur coaches are suspended over improper recruitment activities.

An investigation found MacArthur High School Head Football Coach, Derek Spates, and MacArthur Head Basketball coach, Felipe Philips both involved in improper recruitment activates. Both coaches have been suspended for one game.

In a press release Decatur Public Schools deputy superintendent, Lisa Taylor said "of course we were disappointed in the findings of our investigation, however, we feel confident that this situation is behind us and we are moving forward. We have exceptional coaches throughout the district and we have student athletes at all levels who are excited about representing Decatur Public Schools."

No students have been penalized due to the recruitment activities, and District 61 has no plans of further action against the two coaches.
