What concerns many is the kind of spending during a time when Illinois already has massive financial issues. The Chicago Sun Times reports one-hundred-sixty thousand dollars were spent for sculptures and three-hundred-twenty-three thousand dollars were spent on chandeliers. Other renovations have already drawn criticism from Governor Pat Quinn and candidates seeking office in 2014. Six-hundred-seventy thousand dollars were already spent on copper-plated doors. House Speaker Michael Madigan's Spokesman says the doors are designed to make the building look like the original construction.
