Man set to appear in court after standoff with police
Mahomet - A man has been given a notice to appear in court after a two hour standoff with police in Champaign County.
Mahomet Police Chief, Mike Metzler told our partners at the Champaign News Gazette that around two Monday afternoon a man threatened two women with what looked like a gun. The women gave a description of the man and his vehicle which led police to a home in the 1000 block of Hillside Lane in Mahomet.
After a two hour stand off, 70 year old Scott Mccaughrin was taken into custody. When Mccaughirin's home was searched police found a toy gun that matched the description given by the two women.
Chief Metzler also said that Mccaughrin was given a notice to appear and was released after complaining of medical problems and refusing treatment.
