DANVILLE- Danville Police are getting closer to capturing the man held responsible for sexual assault. Danville Police have released a photograph and warrant information on a man alleged to be responsible for two assaults on September 10th on the city's east side. Director of public safety, Larry Thomason, says Darrin Mitchell of Riverdale, Illinois is wanted for aggravated criminal sexual assault and bond is set at two-hundred-thousand dollars.
Danville Police were searching for a man who could be involved in two sexual assaults just fifteen minutes apart. Police say the women reported the attacks Tuesday. A twenty-two year-old and twenty-six year-old woman were approached in the morning while walking by themselves. The man assaulted one and tried to assault the other. Both victims describe the suspect as a man in his early twenties, about six feet tall, and wearing shorts and a tank top style shirt. Mitchel is described as a twenty-six year-old male, six feet two inches, one-hundred-fifty-six pounds, with a slight hunch in the back.
According to Thomason there has been a lot of misinformation in the public, much of that through Facebook accounts. He says, "We are always encouraging and willingly accepting information to police on the whereabouts of a suspect or any information related to cases, but misinformation posted has negative effects. Resources are heavily taxed under those conditions as well as putting some people at risk based on unsubstantiated postings."
Mitchell is currently not in custody and anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked not to approach him, as he could be armed. Instead, call 9-1-1 or the detective section of Danville Police Division.
