State's attorney will not conduct criminal investigation, says man died of health problems
Decatur - The death of Decatur man has been determined to be the result of mounting health problems.
On July 3, Stanley Hart, 59, was discovered by Decatur Police in his residence he shared with his mother, and two brothers. The investigation of his death revealed he suffered from a number of health issues and was mentally challenged. Police also said the conditions of the home could only be described as deplorable.
An autopsy showed that Hart died as a result of pneumonia, malnutrition, and neglect. The Macon County State's Attorney's Office and the Decatur Police agreed that, due to age, illness, and limited mental capacity of Mr. Hart's family members, criminal prosecution in not warranted.
Macon County State's Attorney, Jay Scott said their actions do not constitute criminal conduct, and the investigation has been closed.
