Champaign -Police are warning the public about counterfeit currency in the area.
Police say about 12 counterfeit bills have been reported over the last few weeks. These bills are typically missing several security features found in legitimate bills. The counterfeit bills are missing the water mark, the security thread, and color shifting ink. More information about these security features can be found at www.moneyfactory.gov
Stores are urging people to check bills carefully look for the security features. A simple pen detector may not work.
If you have any information about this crime call the Champaign Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
