GATINEAU, QC, Sept. 19, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable Dr. Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women, today emphasized the importance of collaborative relationships in the modern workplace at the annual National Industrial Relations Conference, co-hosted by the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service and the Canada Industrial Relations Board.
"Healthy labour relations are one of the keys to a strong and productive workforce and a strong economy," said Minister Leitch. "Our government is working to ensure labour stability by giving both employers and unions the support they need to create strong working relationships and resolve their differences at the bargaining table."
The Conference brought together representatives from labour and management from across Canada to discuss important issues including: the impacts of social media on labour relations, the mediation of high profile labour disputes, cross-jurisdictional issues, legislative initiatives, workplace psychological health, pensions and union representation models.
The Labour Program develops, administers and enforces workplace legislation and regulations, such as the Canada Labour Code, that cover industrial relations, health and safety, and employment standards for federally regulated workers and employers.
