Flu season returns to Central Illinois

Posted:

DECATUR -- It's the beginning of fall, but doctors say flu season is returning to Central Illinois.

Dr. David Jones at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur said he is treating more patients with respiratory flu-like symptoms.

Although the CDC has reported no cases of influenza in Illinois yet, Dr. Jones said now is the time for folks to get their flu shots.

"Flu shots are very important this time of year," Jones said. "We usually recommend that the patient starts getting the flu shots early in the year in order to help prevent transmission of the virus."

Flu shots are available at family physician's offices, local pharmacies as well as county health departments.
