Springfield -- Illinois Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon has launched a cellphone drive to help victims of domestic violence.
In a news release, Simon says that for each cellphone donated, Verizon Wireless will give $10 up to a total of $10,000 to domestic violence shelters. Also, the drive will result in wireless phones and airtime donated to domestic violence victims.
This is the third year of the cellphone drive and this year the two agencies that will receive money from the donations are the Cairo Women's Shelter in southern Illinois and HOPE in the northern Illinois community of Rochelle.
Cellphones can be donated through Oct. 10. For information about where they can be dropped off, donors can call Simon's office in Springfield at 217-558-3090.
