Decatur - State Rep. Sue Scherer, D-Decatur, and Richland Community College will help job seekers sharpen their skills and prepare to succeed in a competitive job market by hosting a Job Boot Camp. Scherer and career counselors from Richland will discuss job search strategies, interview techniques and networking opportunities as well as offer one-one-one resume evaluation.
"The overwhelming response to the job fair I hosted this summer and my conversations with men and women across this district who face layoffs, reduced hours and lost wages show the great need for jobs in Central Illinois," Scherer said. "I'm focused on stabilizing the state financially and helping businesses put people back to work, and I also want to provide immediate assistance to job seekers by helping them prepare for interviews and create resumes that reflect all they have to offer. This event is a great opportunity to brush up on job search skills, learn more about what employers are looking for and get the most out of every available job opportunity."
Scherer and Richland Community College will host the Job Boot Camp on Friday, Oct. 18 from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the Decatur Public Library, 130 N. Franklin Street in Decatur. The event is free and open to the public.
In addition to resume and interview preparation assistance, Scherer's boot camp will include information about Illinois Job Link, a state website designed to connect job seekers with employers. Individuals looking for jobs and businesses looking to hire can register to use the free site at illinoisjoblink.illinois.gov.
For more information, please contact Scherer's full-time constituent service office at
217-877-9636 or email StateRepSue@gmail.com. Scherer represents the 96th District, which includes portions of Christian, Macon and Sangamon counties.
