Firefighters to use ruined town homes for real life training
Urbana - Troubled Urbana town homes will come to a fiery end, next week.
However, the fire will help firefighters train in real life situations. Fire Training will take place between the hours of 8am to 5pm on October 22"d, 23rd, 24th, and the weekend of the 26 & 27th.
The Illinois Fire Service Institute will be providing the instructional staff to conduct this essential fire training. The training opportunity will give firefighters valuable experience combating fires in Multi-family buildings.
Lierman Ave. between Hunter and Washington St. will be closed daily between 8-5pm to vehicle traffic. Pedestrian traffic will be allowed for the East side of Lierman only during this time period. The public is encouraged to use Lanore to Hunter as an alternative route.
The building has been a magnet for neighborhood crime. Crews will let people observe the burn down on Tuesday but only from a designated area.
