Danville (AP) -- The mayor of Danville wants the state to reconsider plans to move some
unemployment services workers from Danville to Champaign.
The News-Gazette in Champaign reports Mayor Scott Eisenhauer has written to
Gov. Pat Quinn's office asking that services be consolidated instead in Danville, which he says
has greater need.
Illinois Department of
Employment Security spokesman Greg Rivara says the agency has been merging
unemployment services throughout the state to save money.
Rivara says the agency
is encouraging people who are out of work to apply for benefits on the agency's
website or by calling a toll-free number.
The Danville staff will go from 11 workers to
two. Rivara says there won't be layoffs and the other workers will be
transferred, some to Champaign.
