DECATUR-B.G Nevitt was the pastor at Glad Tidings Church and soon a street will be named after him.
Police Chief Todd Walker proposed honorary street signs for B.G Nevitt boulevard. They'll be located at Route 36 and South 27th street.
Nevitt, in addition to being a pastor, was the police chaplain and an auxiliary sergeant.
He died after a motorcycle crash back in August.
Walker says Nevitt's Actions in life from celebrating the birth of a child, to performing marriages and helping officers go through stressful times should be remembered.
"It means so much to folks, not just in the police department, but in the community to have his name be recognized for that," Walker says.
The Decatur Police Benevolent Association and the Decatur Police Chaplain Committee will cover the cost of the signs. The council approved of the signs unanimously. Walker says the signs will be presented to the Nevitt family at a council meeting in November.
