Bookkeeper accused of stealing from school funds appointed a public defender


Springfield - A Southeast High School bookkeeper accused of stealing said she can not afford a lawyer.

Amy Day, 43, was appointed a public defender. She is charged with stealing more than $100,000 from the school's activity fund.  District 186 realized the money was missing through an audit. Day was suspended this month without pay.

Day is being held on $100,000 bond.
