A Middle School Student Serving Her Community

Posted:

DECATUR- While most kids in junior high school just want to spend time with friends, Kaylee Bovyn of Thomas Jefferson Middle School is always thinking of ways to help her community. Last year, Kaylee's dreams turned into reality, as she hosted the first annual Kids Running For Kids. This is an open event for kids and their families to participate in a half mile, one, or three mile run. There is no sign up fee, but monetary and canned food donations are welcome. All money raised goes to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Illinois. The canned foods go to local pantries.

Although last year was Kaylee's first time hosting Kids Running For Kids, her dreams translated into success, as thousands of dollars were raised for the Ronald McDonald House. This year proved even greater success, as there were twice the number of participants compared to last year. Kaylee Bovyn hopes the event continues to grow every year.

Kids Running For Kids took place at Fairview Park at the large pavilion. Next year's event will happen sometime at the end of October. For more information, e-mail kidsrunningforkids@att.Net.
