Macon County - Macon County deputies advise parents to take precautions this Halloween.
Some suggestions include planning a trick or treat route in advance and only allowing children to approach well-lit houses. Deputies say parents should avoid addresses listed in the sex offender registry online.
Costumes should include some reflective fabric so children are visible when crossing. Drivers are also advised to be alert and look out for kids.
"We just need to make sure that everyone takes safety precautions because what can be a fun night of trick or treating and dressing up and having fun with friends and family can simply turn tragic in seconds," said Dep. Tim Hoffman of the Macon Co. Sheriff's Office.
Deputies will patrol Macon County on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
