Settlement reached for man who lost his legs in a crash
Decatur - Macon County pays out a record settlement to man who lost both his legs in a crash with a county deputy.
Brian Duff crashed into the back of a pick-up truck in June of 2012.
Tom Lennox of Decatur was sent to the hospital with serious injures. He lost both of his legs due to the crash.
It happened shortly after 10:30 p.m. in the 2700 block of N. Jasper St. in Decatur. A white pick-up truck driven by Lloyd Dial appeared to be rear-ended by the squad car.
Dial was driving with his sister and sister's boyfriend when a mattress fell out of the bed of the truck. Dial says he pulled to the curb and put on his hazard lights. Lennox was putting the bed back into the truck when he was struck by the squad car.
The Chicago Daily Law Bulletin reports last week, the county paid a 7.6-million dollar settlement to Lennox. Duff lost his job as a deputy, and made a plea deal to a pair of traffic offenses.
