Global warming and global climate change, although not so much at the forefront of everyone's minds, can change the way we live and what will happen in the future. The Nobel Peace Prize winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, IPCC, is set to issue a report next March on how global warming is already affecting us and our future.
A leaked copy of a draft summary of the report appeared online this past Friday on a climate skeptic's website. Governments will spend the next few months making comments about the draft. Just what are some of the scientists saying? The report says "throughout the twenty-first century, climate change impacts will slow down economic growth and poverty reduction, further erode food security, and trigger new poverty traps, the latter particularly in urban areas and emerging hot spots of hunger." The report goes on to say that the low and lower-middle income counties are at the highest risk of climate change threats.
Last week a report was released that Carbon dioxide emissions were at an all time low in years, and our air pollution continues to improve. Global warming and global climate change are topics that should not frighten you. Whether if you believe climate change is man-made or naturally occurring, it is happening and should not be taken lightly. If we continue making environmental progress, all will have healthy, bright futures to come.
