Springfield - The week prior to Halloween, Detectives and Deputies conducted a compliance check of 55 sex offenders in Sangamon County.
55 were checked on last week because of their proximity to neighborhoods with trick or treating.
66-year-old Rex Midden was arrested for failing to register, and 40-year-old Mark Estes was also arrested for failing to register and change his address.
Beginning on October 25th and ending on October 30th, the compliance checks were made to insure the safety of children during Halloween. The results were as follows:
46 offenders were in compliance
2 were arrested due to non-compliance
5 individuals were referred to the State's Attorney's Office for possible charges
2 individual cases are still pending (Detectives are following up)
Sangamon County Undersheriff Jack Campbell stated, "We know the risk factor for children is escalated at Halloween and we wanted to insure their safety. By conducting these checks prior to the holiday, we tried to clear a safe path for them to enjoy trick-or-treating."
