Millikin University Adding University Police

DECATUR- Millikin University is now home to an official university police department. Previously known as the Office and Safety and Security, the Department is now known as the Department of Public Safety. The creation of a university police department was approved by Millikin's Board of Trustees in May 2013. This decision was not based on any particular issue. Rather, it was intended to improve the overall safety and security of the university. The new Department of Public Safety is headed by Chris Ballard, who is the director of public and safety and chief of police.

Millikin University Police will primarily respond to university-owned properties only. If Millikin Police are not on duty, then the Decatur Police will respond. As the new program is implemented over the next few months, the campus community will start noticing more visible campus police presence in early 2014.
