Prescription drugs can cost a few dollars to a few hundred dollars.
WAND's Brigette Burnett checked four commonly used drugs; Plavix, Lipitor, Singulair and a Z-pack. She compared prices at Dale's Southlake Pharmacy and Victory Pharmacy, both are in Decatur, to the big chains, Walgreens and Walmart.
"Plavix and Lipitor used to be the two most requested drugs and they were the top drugs as far as volume," said Dale Colee.
Plavix is used to treat strokes. It will cost you about $39 for a month supply at Dale's and Lipitor is about $29.
At Victory Pharmacy Lipitor costs $55.27. However, the owner, Wole Adeoye said, "if they bring their price to me, we'll definitely match it."
At Walgreens you will shell out $109.99 for a generic brand of Lipitor and $154.99 for Plavix.
It's definitely that time of the year for a Z-pack. Walmart sells 6 pills for $36.32. At Victory Pharmacy it's $21.87.
"People always shop around. We find that our prices are very comparative even compared to the big chain stores," added Adeoye.
If you buy Singulair from Adeoye's store, you'll save about $5 and that is compared to Walmart. Singulair is $150 at Walgreens.
"Many times the 90 day supply is a much better option, but some people can only afford $4 a month," said Colee.
