Mary Bryant Home Breaks Ground on New Education Center
Springfield - The Brandt Thomas Education Center will be used for educating and training the blind and visually impaired, giving them a chance to learn the latest technology available to live and work in a modern world.
In order to build the new Brandt Thomas Education Center, the Mary Bryant Home had to raise $125,000.
The goal was within reach, and that's when Evelyn Brandt Thomas stepped in, citing her own life story with vision impairment.
Thomas explained that it's simply the right thing to do for giving those with blindness and visual impairment a chance to work in the real world.
"Well our main purpose is to help someone get the education and training that they can be self efficient and support themselves. Because in my own site, although my vision is still good, but I never know when it might cause a problem. And with my brother's eye sight over the years, it's pretty important to us," Thomas told WAND News.
Construction on the Brandt Thomas Education Center will start in March, and is expected to be done in early June.
