Springfield (AP) -- The high school football team from tornado-stricken Washington will play its playoff game Saturday in front of a television audience.
The Illinois High School Association said Wednesday the semifinal between Washington Community High School and Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin will be shown on Comcast SportsNet Chicago, Springfield's WCIX and on WAOE and WYZZ in Peoria. The IHSA will stream the game on its website, www.IHSA.tv .
A tornado destroyed hundreds of homes and killed one person Sunday in Washington.
Illinois State University gave the team a place to practice. Other high schools have helped with laundry and food.
Sacred Heart-Griffin has also chartered buses to get Washington fans to the game in Springfield. Many of them lost vehicles.
The IHSA will donate $1 from each ticket to the American Red Cross.
