Police checking for people illegally parking this weekend

Posted:

Springfield - If you're out shopping this weekend don't illegally park in spots reserved for disabled drivers.

Starting on Friday the Secretary of State Police will be checking for those who shouldn't be parked in those marked spots. Secretary of State Jesse White says his police force will be in Champaign, Springfield and Peoria, as well as other places in the state.

If a driver is caught misusing a disability parking placard they could face a six month license suspension and $500 fine. Last year more than 160 citations were given.
