Travelers Hit the Road For Thanksgiving

Springfield - Every year, the day before Thanksgiving is the busiest travel day of the year.

This year, more people are traveling to see friends and family than in years past.

With the price of gas being down nearly 16 cents in Illinois, drivers everywhere are thankful.

According to, the current average price at the pump in Springfield is about $3.27, down from $3.43 this time last year.

For drivers hitting the interstates, that's a welcome sight.

"We have a van full and we're going from South Bend to Kansas City, so I'm really happy about the prices being down," one driver told WAND News.

By paying less at the pump, travelers can make their money count elsewhere this holiday season.
