White powder identified


UPDATE: The substance found at the Governor's Office for Citizens' Assistance has been identified as baby powder, said Fire Chief Ken Fustin. Business will return to normal.


Springfield - The Springfield Fire Department's Hazmat team is currently on scene at the Governor's Office for Citizens' Assistance.

WTAX in Springfield said the building on 222 South College, received a letter with a white powder early Tuesday.

Springfield Fire Chief Ken Fustin said the letter raised suspicion and is now considered a credible threat.

There are 30 to 50 employees still on lockdown. The heating and cooling systems have been shutdown. The powder will be tested at the scene.

Authorities say the letter may have arrived Tuesday morning, but possible could have been delivered Monday night.
