Michael joined the WAND News team in 2013 as a multi-media journalist. Michael hails from Chicago, however, he isn't completely new to Central Illinois. He studied Broadcast Journalism at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Michael caught the journalism bug when he was 7 years old, during his first visit to a television newsroom. His aunt, a news anchor at ABC 7 Chicago, brought him to work one day and he's been inspired ever since.
He further explored his interest for news in high school where he reported for the school's award-winning broadcast company. It wasn't until interning in college, that Michael experienced what it's like to work in a professional newsroom. He was tasked with finding human-interest stories, writing copy, monitoring wire reports, and helping producers organize daily newscasts. He continued to develop his skill set as an intern at the Chicago-based daytime talk show, Windy City LIVE, as a reporter/anchor at UI7 Cable TV, the public access television channel operated by the University of Illinois, and most recently, as an intern for the acclaimed talk show, Super Soul Sunday, on OWN.
Michael is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
