Changes in disability parking at meters

Posted:

Champaign - On January 1, 2014 a new law will go into effect for disability parking at meters.

Vehicles with the new Secretary of State yellow and grey striped placard will not have to pay parking meters. However, those with the standard blue placard will have to pay the meters. People displaying any parking placard will still be able to park at any non-metered space without charge including the Hill Street Parking Deck, City parking lots that have non-metered parking for persons with disabilities, and privately owned parking for persons with disabilities.

First time violators will be given a warning ticket. However, all placard holders should have been notified of these changes by the Secretary of State. For more information, contact the Secretary of State Persons with Disabilities Unit at 217-782-2709 or visit the Secretary of State's website at www.cyberdriveillinois.com.
