Petersburg - The Menard County's state's attorney died of natural causes Friday.
Ken Baumgarten was pronounced dead at Memorial Medical Center's emergency room in Springfield shortly before midnight. Baumgarten was 55.
On Monday the Sangamon County Coroner determined the cause
of death to be Pulmonary Embolism. The death will be certified as accidental
due to an injury Baumgarten sustained early in November.
Baumgarten, has been state's attorney for Menard County for more than 15 years. He was a former legal counsel to the Illinois Prisoner Review Board. He was also a candidate for Menard County circuit judge.
