Teachers in Mount Olive go on strike

Mount Olive - Teachers are on strike at the Mount Olive school district.

Monday morning teachers went on strike, after the teachers approved a strike last wee. The teachers' union and school district could not agree on a new three-year contract.

The two sides are in disagreement about pay increases and health insurance benefits. The current contract expired at the end of the 2012-2013 school year.

At this time, there is no school until a contract has been agreed on.

A release sent out to the parents by Patrick Murphy, Mt. Olive Superintendent stated "my hope the strike can be resolved in a timely manner so we can get the students back in school."
