Springfield Craigslist Robbery Highlights Risk in Online Shopping

Springfield - Craigslist has become a hot spot for shoppers, but for some people, meeting up with a seller or buyer from the Internet is just too risky.

After a woman was robbed in the O'Reilly Auto Parts parking lot on South Grand in Springfield, police are urging that online shoppers use extreme caution.

"If it makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck, then something seems odd, and it more than likely is," Sangamon County Crime Stoppers coordinator Matt Goulet told WAND News.

When it does come to holiday shopping, officer Goulet said there's a chance you'll find a deal on Craigslist that's too good to pass up, so if you're going to meet with somebody the best thing to do is meet up in a well-populated area, and he says you should bring somebody with you and he has several other tips that could make a much safer shopping experience for you.

"Let somebody know where you're going.  At least call and tell them here's where I'm going, here's when I should be back," added Goulet.

Proving that no deal, is worth putting your life at risk.
