DECATUR-Monday is the last day to sign up for plans under the Affordable Care Act or so-called "Obamacare" to get coverage starting January first.
The deadline was pushed back a week back in November. But now people are still scrambling. And with an uptick in the number of people signing up many are finding out waiting until the last minute is not a good thing.
The deadline is looming and it seems likely there are going to be people who want to do something to get coverage starting January first, but can't.
It takes about an hour and a half to get through the system on Healthcare.gov and signed up with an insurance company with the help of an agent.
But for much of Friday, the website has not been working. It can accommodate 800-thousand users a day which consumers in 36 states rely on.
Don Whitacre of Whitacre Macnamara insurance services says he's doubtful everyone who wants to will meet the deadline.
"We've had appointments all day, people come in and there's nothing we can do. We can't get through the website and so I don't know what we're going to do. It's kind of scary because we've got appointments today, appointments tomorrow, appointments Monday."
There is however special open enrollment that extends all the way through March. That would allow people to have effective dates of February and March 1st.
