Springfield's 'First Night' Safe Way to Start New Year

Springfield - Preparations have already begun for the 27th annual 'First Night' in downtown Springfield.

This yearly tradition is a great way for people to visit downtown to see some of the area's best local musicians and performers, all while doing it in a fun way to ring in the New Year.

This year's 'First Night' will feature live entertainment throughout the capitol city's downtown.

Musical acts, ballet, comedians and more will be performing at several stages.

What started out in Boston, Massachusetts, has become a tradition in Springfield, a tradition that gives families a chance to spend the new years together in a safe setting.

"Bars, with the alcohol, is not the place to have kids.  And this way you don't have to worry about is somebody buying too much alcohol, or have too much of a celebration going on, and this way they don't have to worry about that and be family friendly.  No alcohol on any of the premises on First Night," said logistics chairman Judson DeVore.
