Interstate update from Illinois State Police

Pesotum 1-6-14 UPDATE 9:20 AM -  Illinois State Police District 10 officials are advising the roadways in District 10 continue to be EMERGENCY TRAVEL ONLY.  Counties include Champaign, Douglas, Coles, Vermilion, Edgar, Moultrie, Piatt, Shelby, and Macon.  INTERSTATE-57, INTERSTATE-72, and INTERSTATE-74 are extremely dangerous with snow packed drifts and icy patches. Motorists should use caution, reduce speed, and allow for extra travel time.  Many State Routes, US Routes, county highways and township roads are IMPASSABLE and/or are closed due to drifting snow and abandoned vehicles blocking the roadway. 

 

TRAVEL CONDITIONS ARE LIFE-THREATENING AND ANYONE TRAVELING ON THE ROADWAYS IS IN LIFE-THREATENING DANGER.  IF MOTORISTS HAVE VEHICLE PROBLEMS, A DISABLED VEHICLE AND/OR CRASH, ASSISTANCE MAY NOT ARRIVE BEFORE THEY SUCCUMB TO THE EXTREME COLD.  TEMPERATURES AND WIND CHILLS CAN QUICKLY CAUSE HYPOTHERMIA AND DEATH.

Stay home and out of danger.  Extremely cold temperatures and dangerous wind chills can be deadly.  Stranded motorists are encouraged to remain inside their vehicles.
