Springfield Boys and Girls Club Needing Volunteers
Springfield - Like many groups, the Boys and Girls Club of Springfield is no stranger to budget cuts.
Whether it's helping with reading, with homework, or on the computer, executive director William Legge said that kids in the capitol city need your mentoring.
"The boys and girls club serves about 950 kids a day through 11 locations that we have here in Springfield. Utilizing volunteers to help further our mission is not only good for our kids, but it's great for the volunteers," Legge said.
One of those volunteer groups is the Springfield Ballet Company, who through song and dance, are not only helping teach children about ballet, they're also gaining life experiences at the same time.
"It's also great for our dancers. I have a group of fantastic young women that are the future civic leaders of our community and they're experiencing that sense of giving back already in their young lives," Springfield Ballet Mistress Gina DeCroix Russell told WAND News.
That's an experience that will hopefully inspire others to volunteer.
"Well I think that anybody that has a talent, or a skill, or knowledge, should share it and any of those types of things are wasted if you keep them to yourselves," added DeCroix Russell.
