Postal facility under fire by OSHA for facility violations
Champaign - The U.S. Postal Service in Champaign will face some heavy fines after Occupational Safety and Health Administration found eight violations at their facility on North Mattis Avenue.
The facility faces a $144,000 in fines, after an inspection found they did not have proper lockout procedures for their mail-sorting equipment and they did not have railings on stairways. These same violations were cited in 2010, 11, 12, and 2013 at several other facilities across the country.
The Champaign facility does not provide guards to prevent packages from falling overhead conveyors. They also do not provide proper training for equipment lockout procedures.
OSHA said some of these violations must be corrected by Friday, while others have until Feb. 25th.
