Champaign -- Champaign Unit 4 Schools and Urbana District #116 are honoring the people guiding the next generation.
January is National Mentoring Month. To celebrate the school districts held a luncheon for those who take a child under their wing as a mentee.
The Champaign-Urbana One-to-One Mentoring program pairs adults with students to help them through the challenges of childhood. They meet once a week for an hour, but it's not just the mentees that benefit.
"It takes everyone giving back and giving of themselves to help mold the community," said mentor Dimitri McFadden. "And at the same time I hope to continue to be a part of this process because as I continue to give I learn as well."
The Champaign-Urbana One-to-One Mentoring program is looking for new mentors. Contact the individual school districts directly for more details.
