Government seeks Canadians' views on how to continue to build a stronger, more prosperous Canada

WINNIPEG, Jan. 21, 2014 /CNW/ - The Honourable Candice Bergen, Minister of State (Social Development), today hosted a pre-budget consultation with business representatives, local organizations, and community leaders. The roundtable was one of several consultations in communities across the country in preparation for Economic Action Plan 2014.

To ensure that all Canadians can participate in this process, in addition to the ongoing series of pre-budget round tables, Canadians are also invited to submit their views online.

Quick facts

  • The Government is committed to having a balanced budget by 2015. The Government has set an ambitious debt-to-GDP target of 25 per cent by 2021, and will reduce that ratio to pre-recession levels by 2017.
  • Canada leads the G-7 in job creation, income growth and keeping debt levels low.

Quote

"Today's Winnipeg pre-budget consultation is one of the many ways that our Government is listening to the concerns of Manitobans as we gear up for Economic Action Plan 2014. This valuable input from rural Manitobans, local farmers, manufacturers, community organizations, and business leaders will help us inform future policy decisions that will benefit people across this province and indeed, all Canadians."
-Candice Bergen, Minister of State (Social Development)
