Former Illini basketball player makes big donation
Champaign - A former U of I basketball player and the owner of the Harlem Globetrotters will donating 3-million dollars toward the State Farm Center.
Owner Mannie Jackson plans to put the money toward the basketball hall of fame in the State Farm Center, which will be named after Jackson. The new hall of fame will include Illini basketball memorabilia.
Jackson and teammate Governor Vaughn became the first black players to letter and start for the Illini during the 1957-58 season.
