Dredging project gets green light

Decatur - A green light for the multi-year dredging project was given Monday night, at the city council meeting.

Council members voted 6-0 in favor to dredge basins 1 through 4 of Lake Decatur. The project  will increase the lake capacity by 30 percent. Lake Decatur currently has a 174-day water supply when full. The dredging is expected to span 5-6 years and add 52 days of additional supply.

Now the contractors are looking to hire the right people for the job. A number of local union and non-union members have requested their consideration for the job.
