Local Activist Says Push for Racial Equality is Far From Over
Jeffrey Perkins is the former president of the NAACP Decatur Chapter. That's where he realized all of the goals left to be accomplished in the struggle for racial equality.
"I think we've come so far, but yet I feel like we have a long way to go with the voting rights, gun control, income gap."
He says you don't need to wait for capital hill to make a difference. You can start where you are.
"To make sure as community people, that you attend school board meetings so you know what's going on in kid's education. To attend city council meeting to understand what's going on in city government and how it affects us in our neighborhoods, in our jobs, and those types of things."
Gaining an understanding to make a change for the future.
