Champaign - City officials say snow accumulated two inches or more on sidewalks from the recent storm.
The city ordinance requires sidewalks to be cleared within 48 hours, after the public works director declaration. Because of the ordinance Champaign sidewalks need to be cleared by noon on Monday.
Sidewalks not in compliance could be cleared by the city, at the owner's expense.
Residents and visitors may also notice parking meters in downtown and campus areas will read 'fail' over the next few days. The reason, parking meters may malfunction when they become full and cannot accept additional coins.
During extreme weather, staff that performs parking meter collections are resigned to snow and ice removal duties. These 'failed' meters will not be enforced while the city completes its snow plowing operations.
