Families Still in Mourning, A Decade Later

SPRINGFIELD-Two young adults shot in a house while young children were inside. Ten years later Springfield detectives are still trying to find the killers.

SPRINGFIELD-Ten years may have passed, but the families of the young victims are still reeling, and they worry without necessary information, the case may never be solved.

23-year-old Shameka Wright and 22-year old Jared Womack were inside a house on Cook Street in Springfield when they were shot multiple times. Both died from their injuries.

Wright's young children were inside the home at the time.

Police believe more than one person was responsible and they have persons of interest.

Wright's mother, Liz McClanahan says she wants justice for her daughter's death.

"Whoever did it, I can say this," McClanahan says. "I'm not mad at you because it happened. But you will suffer the consequence that's between you and God."

McClanahan has raised her daughter's children since her murder.

Investigators have been following several persons of interest, but need more information about the case. If you have any, they ask that you call Springfield Police or Sangamon County Crime Stoppers.
