DECATUR- It's a daunting topic for many people. In-person Counselor from the Macon County Health Department says when it comes to getting health insurance, many are in such distraught they don't know where to even begin. That's why the Macon County Health Department teamed up with Saint Mary's Hospital this morning to answer questions and help people register for health care through Get Covered Illinois. A few navigators from the health department made the thirty to forty-five minute process painless. All you had to do in order to get covered was bring the following: social security card (number), income information in the form of a pay stub or W-2 Form, proof of Illinois residency by a utility bill or lease, and any up-to-date health insurance information. The Macon County Health Department usually holds these health care workshops once a month at Saint Mary's Hospital. Last month, about twenty people received help getting covered. This morning nearly fifteen people were expected. The exact date for next month's health care workshop is yet to be determined, but it will be a bigger event, with all of the navigators present from the Macon County Health Department.
The Macon County Health Department is at 1221 E. Condit Street in Decatur. Their phone number is 217-423-6550. You can also contact them via e-mail at email@example.com. Information about Get Covered Illinois is also found at getcoveredillinois.gov.
