Readers Digest cash award scam hitting Macon County

Decatur - The Macon County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a phone scam.

 

The caller is claiming to be with Readers Digest, and that they have won a large sum of cash. The caller then advises the person that they need to send them several thousands of dollars in order to receive the large cash prize. The individual then receives a second call from a male claiming to be Sheriff Tom Schneider, stating that the Readers Digest cash prize is real and legit.

 

The scam is under investigation, the location of the call is currently unknown. If you receive this scam call, or any other suspicious call do not give out any personal information. If you think you have been scammed contact the Sheriff's Department or local police.
