Decatur - The future of a longstanding vacant building has been decided.
The Macon County Board voted to begin demolition on the 36,000 square foot Franklin Mall, at Thursday nights Macon County Board meeting.
The board voted in favor of the demolition 18-0.
The empty building on Franklin Street will likely be turned into a parking lot for Macon County's law enforcement center. The commission voted to approve the purchase at a meeting last week for $220,000.
The board will now begin taking bids for demolition. Board Chairman Jay Dunn, said the parking lot could become another building that would act as added space for the law enforcement center.
