Macoupin County - A train versus car accident left one dead on Friday afternoon.
The driver, Brian Irwin, of a Chevrolet truck was traveling westbound on St. Johns Road just east of Old Route 66, at 11:30 a.m. Friday. Irwin was attempting to cross a railroad crossing, when he was struck by a train. The train struck the driver's side of the truck.
Irwin suffered serious injuries and was transported by helicopter to Memorial Hospital in Springfield. His passenger, Nicholas Rayphole suffered serious injures and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Macoupin County Coroner.
