Decatur - A fake caller is trying to trick residents into providing checking or credit card information for past due water bills.
The calls are not from the City of Decatur. The caller is claiming to be a city employee stating that water services would be disconnected if they did not provide financial information to pay a bill. The calls were reported between 8:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The city does use an automated system and tells residents to call 424-2841 to discuss water bills, they do not ask for any financial information.
Residents that receive the calls requesting financial information can call the Decatur Police Department at 424-2711 to report an incident.
