Police respond to shots fired, car chase ensues

Danville - Police responded to an early morning report of shots fired.

 

Police were detailed to the area of Harmon and Woodbury around 2:40 a.m., they spotted a brown vehicle possible involved on Fairchild and Kingdom. Police tried to stop the car resulting in a chase.

 

Gunfire was exchanged between the persons in the vehicle and the officer attempting to stop the vehicle. The vehicle crashed at Logan and Kimber.

 

According to a release from the Director of Public Safety Larry Thomson said there was an exchange of gunfire between persons in the vehicle and the officers making the stop.  "One individual, a male, was struck," he said.  "Two of the individuals were immediately taken from the vehicle and the individual shot shortly thereafter.  The individual shot was taken to the Danville hospital where he was transferred to an Urbana facility."  Officers involved were not injured.

 

Illinois State Police are investigating. No names have been released at this time.
