Good news out of the Lake Decatur Dredging project. The company in charge wants to hire dozens of local workers for the job. Your shot at being one of them starts tomorrow.
"The City of Decatur has hired Great Lakes Dredge & Dock to do the dredging of basins 1 through 4 of Lake Decatur, said Keith Alexander, the city's water manager. "That's a project that goes this year.. as long as 2019. Great Lakes Dredge & Dock has elected to do a job fair over the next two days here in Decatur to try and get local hires for their project.
The two-phase project requires about 55 workers collectively. All with valuable experience.
"It's a fairly specialized operation, using large machinery to dredge the bottom of Lake Decatur."
The dredging project begins in August. The first job fair is tomorrow at the Decatur Public Library from 9am to 4pm. The second is on Friday at the same place from 9am to 6pm.
